What is Home Infusion Therapy

Home infusion therapy allows patients to receive vital fluids and medications in the convenience of their own home without the inconvenience or costs associated with making hospital visits. Home infusion provides an alternative to receiving intravenous (IV) therapy in the hospital. Home Infusion Therapy is the intravenous administration of medication to patients in their own home. Patients and doctors find the convenience and comfort of being at home very appealing. Patients can often return to their normal routines and even, in some cases, return to work while still on therapy.Typical candidates for home infusion therapy include patients with cancer, AIDS, nutritional defects, bone marrow inflammation, leukemia, heart disease, hemophilia and other health problems.
